This morning's breakfast was amazing. It is still weird to say it, but: I have the most wonderful wife. She woke up inspired to make biscuits, orange pinwheel biscuits to be precise. For all the back-and-forth between us (and, by extension, between me and her family) about "culture" -- namely "Pennsylvania Dutch culture" -- she really has brought a lot of life to our household. Call it "culture," call it "tradition," call it whatever you want; she entered our marriage with a wealth of knowledge and the creative imagination which is needed to bring knowledge forth at the most appropriate time. This morning's orange pinwheel biscuits are only the most recent example of this.

They were astounding. If my mouth had not been so pleased, I may have been able to summon poetic words of praise, appreciation, and love.

And as if it was not enough that she made these wonderful little bits of culinary sunshine, she had the thought to make a quick skillet breakfast a la The Naked Chef. We used spinach and chorizo from our neighboring Market (a source of daily joy and inspiration), eggs (also from a local dairy farmer and bought at Market), and onion. What makes this special is that you make it in subtle stages so that it cooks together but does not fully congeal into one dish as would a frittata. It was a wonderful complement to the slightly sweet biscuits (baked in a pool of orange juice).

We are truly blessed. We live in a great apartment, together. We live in a neat little city, together. We have a wonderful set of friends and family, together. And, above all, we are together.

This morning showed me, in glaring detail, that we need not go to a fancy restaurant for brunch nor live in a big city nor be filthy rich to enjoy life. The little things which made this morning great are the same little things which come and go in our life everyday. Happiness is recognizing these glimses of joy and basking in their blessing beam of divinity.
