Running

100 days until the Red Rose Run. (article)

The local YWCA's Race Against Racism is on Saturday, April 29th. That's coming up way too fast.

Just found this site, The Runner's Gazette, serving the Mid-Atlantic region.

"9 and 8"

I'm not a big fan of Tiger Woods; but, c'mon, he's g-o-o-d.

Apparently, Tiger's opponent in the first round of match play, Stephen Ames, gave Tiger a little gentle competitive verbal jab on Tuesday. Result? Tiger opened up a can of "release the hounds." (Double cliches are better) At the 19th hole press conference (actually, in this case it was the 11th hole), Tiger left no doubt that his performance was due, in some part, to Ames' now-regretted comment.

If you haven't seen the clip, ESPN thankfully has a clip here (video clip in right column of page).

Movies to see

Over the past few months, we've been doing our part, keeping Blockbuster in business, that is. We've all but decided to re-enroll in Netflix. We suspended our Netflix account last summer when we found that we spent most of our time outside or out of town. Now, we find more and more, that Blockbuster's selection is pitiful and the convenience of Netflix would be nice.

Here are some films I'm hoping to rent soon:

JFK
Amistad
Unbearable Likeness of Being
Enron: Smartest Guys in the Room
History of Violence
Last of the Mohicans
American History X
Pollock

Leave any suggestions in the comments or email me.

High School music

Tonight -- as my wife and I hurtled through the dark countryside to see Capote -- we listened to a playlist on my iPod (via iTrip). The playlist had a curious mix of music: much of the music was music that I listened to when I was younger (primarily in high school) and haven't listened to for some time. For kicks, I've posted much of the playlist below.

Pearl Jam, Elderly Woman...
Travis, Sing
Blink 182, I Miss You
Radiohead, Karma Police
Toad the Wet Sprocket, All I Want
OutKast, The Whole World
Less Than Jake, Johnny Quest
Stone Temple Pilots, Plush (acoustic)
MxPx, Take On Me (cover)
Our Lady Peace, Clumsy
Dave Matthews, After Her (live)
Weezer, My Name Is Jonas
Everclear, Everything to Everyone
U2, Beautiful Day
Biz Markie, Just a Friend
R.E.M., One (cover of U2)
Emmet Swimming, Sunblock
Cornershop, Brimful of Asha
Emmet Swimming, Listen to the River
Citizen Cope, Son's Gonna Rise
OutKast, The Way You Move
Agents of Good Roots, Upspin
Third Eye Blind, Motorcycle Drive-By
Seven Mary Three, Water's Edge
Goldfinger, Here in Your Bedroom
Reel Big Fish, Beer
Green Day, When I Come Around
R.E.M., Man On the Moon
Nirvana, Where Did You Sleep Last Night (unplugged)
Geggy Tah, Whoever You Are
Reel Big Fish, I'll Never Be
OutKast, Hey Ya!
Beastie Boys, Sabotage
Everyday at Six, The Yacht
Toad the Wet Sprocket, Walk On the Ocean
Bush, Machinehead
Skalicious, Rope
Offspring, Self Esteem
Oasis, Wonderwall
Green Day, Basket Case
Blur, Song 2
The Verve, Bittersweet Symphony
Pete Yorn, For Nancy
OMC, How Bizarre
Modest Mouse, Gravity Rides Everything
Green Day, J.A.R.
Our Lady Peace, Superman's Dead
Cowboy Mouth, Jenny Says
Santana f. Rob Thomas, Smooth
Blues Traveler, Most Precarious
Toadies, Possum Kingdom
Busta Rhymes, Gimme Some More
Foo Fighters, Next Year
MxPx, I'm Ok, You're Ok
Emmet Swimming, Jump in the Water
Green Day, Hitchin' a Ride
Matchbox Twenty, Long Day
Green Day, Brain Stew
Emmet Swimming, Arlington
R.E.M., Daysleeper
Green Day, She
Good Charlotte, Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous
Beck, Tropicalia

I don't have to point out that many of these songs did not air while I was in high school. But, for some reason or another, almost all of these seem to come from my late high school/early college years, which coincidentally were the years of my life when music played the biggest role. All of these songs have memories attached to them. It's fun to listen to music that immediately transports you to a time and place far away while hanging out in my "new" life with my lovely bride. The best of both worlds.

P.S. Go see Capote. It's gosh darn good. Philip Seymour Hoffman is spectacular.

Fickle

I'm often accused of having an unstoppable desire to acquire new hobbies and/or sports. SIDENOTE: at some point in your early post-college years, sports become hobbies. Marriage brings this moment of transition earlier in one's life.

In no particular order and without the necessity of actually doing any of these items; a desire and usually brief passion for the item is all that is required. Within the past three years alone:

Soccer
Running
Trail running
Hiking
Rock Climbing
Bouldering
Snowboarding
Surfing
Kayaking
Golf
Fly fishing
Sailing
